What’s Your Value?

Whether we realize it or not, every day we are communicating our value. We give people some sort of message, even if we aren’t saying a word. This is because we are communicative beings, and there is so much more to communication than words. We say things through the verbal language we use, our body movements, the clothes we wear etc,. So, what are you communicating? Maybe you’ve never taken the time to consider this before, but it is well worth the consideration.

First, let’s think about our value. As women, we all have value, but what is it? Do we determine it ourselves? Ultimately, it’s God who knows our value, and when we are daughters of the King, we are of tremendous worth! “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31, KJV).

God’s children are precious in His sight! Whether you feel like you have value or not doesn’t matter, because, if you’re truly a child of God, you have worth. Jesus rescued you from your sins, He paid your penalty, and you have worth!

Since we have value, shouldn’t we communicate and live as though we do? Yes, but how do we live this way, and how do we know if we are truly communicating our worth in a way that’s pleasing to God? Well, this is an area that you should definitely bring to the Lord for wisdom, and ask Him to lead you. A couple questions to ask yourself are, “Am I living to glorify God in every area of my life?” and “Am I living as Christ’s representative here on earth?”. As believers, we truly do represent Christ and that is a very high calling. What about the way you dress? Does it point others to Christ and His glory, or does it draw attention to you and the form of your body? As women of God, we should be seeking to honor our brother’s in Christ. This doesn’t mean you should dress unattractively but rather respectably and beautifully. Even some men, who are not walking with the Lord, will show you more respect if you are dressed in a Christ-honoring way. What about the way you walk or move? Does it bring glory to God, or does it distract from His glory? You could be covered from head to toe and still cause someone’s thoughts to stumble, by the way you move. Yes, every person is responsible for his own thoughts, but we can and should be Christ-honoring and courteous to those around us.

God may call you to give up certain things in your life that won’t be easy for you to give up (I’ve been there), but we aren’t called to walk an easy path. On the contrary, we are actually promised persecution and hatred from the world. So, don’t think that accepting Christ as your Savior will be the end of hardship. You entered into the heat of the battle when you chose to follow Christ. Let us be assured, though, that we are loved by God and He will help us to be victorious, as we continue to yield to Him. “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39, KJV).
